2112

Please comment here about the song-story "2112" (by the band Rush) which we listened to in class on Friday, January 18. You might comment about the nature of the extrapolations in the song, or about how it compares to other SF stories/films you have experienced.

The song 2112 struck me as very intriguing. I connected it to the bible and the book of Ezekiel. Ezekiel sees an angelic vision of a future temple of God.

2112 is about a man who finds music but has his dreams crushed by his repressive society.

I completed some research and found out that this song was based on the book Anthem by Ayn Rand.

I really liked this song. To me, it is about a man who dicovers music but is told byt the government that it is not important and actually distructibve to society. I believe he then has a vision in which a spirit of some sort takes him through time to see the history of music. This opens his eyes to how corrupt his society is and he decides to commit suicide just before his planet is taked over.

This seems to take place on Earth but it is a little unclear.

This song was pretty interesting. It was definitely different than any other song I have heard. When I was listening, it was cool how the government was displayed as hard rock while the citizen with no power played a small string instrument like a ukulele. This song relates to Fahrenheit 451 in that the people are not able to think for themselves and try new things. Due to the fact that 2112 was based on the book Anthem, the meaning of the song is amplified.
