When I was reading the story, I believed that the father was over exaggerating. It turns out that the alien was exactly how he described it. I think that I would have tried to avoid the Martian as well had he been my son in law. I believe that the author was trying to show that people of this world should not be prejudice of each other, because there may be other persons and cultures in the rest of the universe.
